I don’t know what was going on, but two can play that game.
“C’mon Chanel. You know what happened.” he said a bit quieter as he started walking towards me.
“Humor me, Matthews. I don’t have all day,” and I wasn’t even kidding. My mom would freak if she found out I blew doing my homework again.
“It’s not that much of a-”
I just had to cut him off. He was taking to damn long to say the truth.
“Listen here, Matthews. I am not going to play your little games no longer. Just tell us all what you got to say.”
“I really don’t think of it as something too grand but-”
“JUST SAY IT.”
“Thank you for making Taylor my prom date this year. It’s a true blessing to be with one of the most prettiest girls in the whole school.”
“Yeah, that’s what I thought-” I had to shut up. Did he just thank me for making Taylor his prom date?
I looked over back at the table to find Taylor crying again. This time, tears of joy and happiness.
He finally reached me at the entrance.
“I hope you didn’t think I was going to admit kissing you in the stall. Remember, tell no one and Taylor doesn’t have to cry at home sitting in her pretty dress.”
Josh starts to walk out with his brother as I called out, “You’re such a jerk.”
I turn around to go back to the table when hands and arms came flaring at me.
“Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you so much Nell! I can’t believe I have a prom date!” Taylor squealed.
“And it’s with Josh. You know, that guy you wanted me to back off of.” I tell her.
“Thank you again. How can I ever repay you?”
“Taylor, best friends don’t repay each other.”
“Ok, but honestly, I thought I was going to hear some bad news when he said ‘Don’t pretend like it never happened, Chanel.’ I thought something like he kissed you or something was going to come out of his mouth.”
My mouth grew dry as she said this. Did she know? She couldn’t have. If she did, then she would have asked or confronted me about it. Right?
“Yeah, I thought some stupid nonsense like that was going to happen too.”
“Thanks again Nelly. Did I mention that you’re the best?”
“Maybe a couple times, more or less.” I tell her.
“Well, you are. Might as well go congrats with the others.”
Then she went back to Gina and Bethany. I went back to my car and went home.
